Friendly Nations is not a nationality stamp you collect at the airport. You need to be a citizen of a country on Panama’s current list, and you need a qualifying link to the country. Public guides describe that link as employment with a Panamanian company, real estate around $200,000, or a fixed bank deposit around $200,000 held for about three years.
The list of countries is long and includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, much of Europe, and others. It is also a list that an attorney should read with you, because “I think my passport qualifies” is how applications stall. We will not publish a homemade country table that can go stale.
The usual shape is provisional residency for about two years, then an application for permanent residency if you still meet the rules. It is a settlement path. It is also more paperwork than a digital nomad stay, and it is the right conversation when you are actually moving, hiring, or buying, not when you want nine months of remote work.
Property on this coast can be the economic tie, if the price and the title qualify. That is a reason to look at homes with counsel in the loop early, before you wire a deposit to the wrong party.
